Friday Inspirations
Weβre a creative team at Blueforest Studios, and the key to a good creative team is synergy. We love getting together and brainstorming new ideas and talking about the latest trends in art and video production. We discovered that the isolation of 2020 was really bumming us out. So- we started a weekly zoom where we simply share something that inspired us during the week. There are no rules, no boundaries- it can be anything that we found interesting, or funny, or touching, or just made us smile. Itβs become such a fun tradition that we thought- why not share it with you? We send out a bi-monthly β5 Things on a Fridayβ email. Subscribe to our newsletter at the end of this post if youβd like to join the email list.
See some of our βFriday 5β inspirations below:
Kurt Vonnegut βMake your soul grow.β
Itβs an older article, but still a gem. Author Kurt Vonnegut at age 84 writes to a high school class and explains the value of art: βPractice any artβ¦.no matter how well or badlyβ¦.to find out whatβs inside you, to make your soul grow.β
New Technology Replaces the Green Screen
Weβve been following this new technology for some time, and like all video production companies, weβre sooo excited! Advances in software like Epicβs Unreal Engine combined with crazy new LED screens allow video producers to place actors in location without green screens. This Vox video breaks it down in laymanβs terms (ie you donβt have to be a video geek to think itβs really, really cool). I think weβre going to have to get this setupβ¦.Christmas list??
Boubou is a Senegalese artist who found internet fame on Instagram. He paints with whatever material he can find. We love this quick video of Boubou painting with a young girl. It just makes you smile :)
Boubou says βart is freedom.β Check out his interview on BBC.
What the world needs now is a little more laughter (and a little more Star Wars? Guess thatβs debatableβ¦). Either way, Uber Eats nails it with their new humor campaign. Love this.
We love the beautiful news daily website. The tagline say it all: unseen trends, uplifting stats, creative solutions. Isnβt time we all had a big dose of positivity?
The 06 Female, the Angelina Jolie of Wolves
This story is an old one, but a good one. NPR has been replaying their Snap Judgement coverage of the 06 Female. Itβs the ultimate girl power in the wild tale. Give it a listen. Itβs worth it. Photo credit Shumway Photography (also pretty inspirationalβ¦.)
This animated short covers the hidden life of Rosa Parks, and her repeated challenge of racial violence and prejudice. Itβs both an inspirational and educational story of one of Americaβs heroes. We also love the animation style and details.
Behind the Scenes Making of the Beauty
Ok. You canβt have a video production inspiration meeting without at least one behind the scenes. This BTS video shows how a talented team applies textures from trash to create a beautiful award-winning short about environmental conservation. Itβs fascinating, lovely, and heartbreaking.
Pushing the boundaries of Zoom
Weβre living the zoom life in 2020, and this creative band really knows how to push the boundaries! When your dancers canβt gather in person, they figure out virtual choreography and nail it. Check out this new video from Thao & The Get Down Stay Down.
Yes-youβve probably already seen it (58 million views on YouTube)- but we had to include it. When this ad dropped, every video producer started talking. The split screen transitions are technically brilliant, and Nike always scores on emotionally evocative campaigns. Wow, just wow.
Who says you canβt play with your food? Viennaβs Vegetable Orchestra plays an original piece from home via zoom. Wait for the red pepperβ¦.Dare you to make a copycat with your coworkers :)
This heartwarming Oscar-winning animated short follows a dad trying to conquer a hairstyle. But bottom line- itβs all about love. Well done. We need more love in this world.
Behind the Scenes Kubo and the Two Strings
Yes. We LOVE behind the scenes videos. This BTS video shows the fascinating work that goes into creating a stop motion film. It will add a whole new level of appreciation when youβre back in the theatre (please soon 2021!) eating that popcorn.
Kevin James βWhat was I going to say?β
2020 has given us a lot of bad, but itβs also given us Kevin Jamesβs YouTube short film channel. Weβve all had that moment in a meeting where we lose a thought. This one is just for a laugh.
Hope you enjoy our Friday inspirations! Reach out if youβd like to share some inspiration.
